Tobacco Use
 

…the number one cause of cancer and the number one cause of preventable death throughout the world  

  • Our workplace is completely tobacco-free (not just smoke-free) indoors and outdoors.
  • We cover prescription and over-the-counter tobacco-cessation products, and counseling, at 100% for employees and their covered dependents who wish to quit.
  • We offer tobacco-cessation initiatives in our workplace, such as a quit line, seminars or onsite support groups.
Diet and Nutrition
 
 
…most cancers are linked to a few controllable factors – tobacco use, poor diet and lack of exercise 

  • We promote healthy food choices, making it easy for employees to maintain a healthy diet.
  • Our employees describe our organization’s culture as one that supports healthy eating habits.
  • We give our employees access to nutrition and weight control programs.
Physical Activity
 
…about one third of cancer deaths are related to overweight or obesity, physical inactivity and poor nutrition, and therefore could be prevented

  • We offer programs or initiatives to encourage physical activity.
  • Our employees describe our organization’s culture as one that supports being physically active.
  • We have eliminated barriers to employees having active lifestyles.
Prevention, Screening & Early Detection
 
…regular screenings may prevent cervical and colorectal cancers…and can detect cancers of the breast and certain other organs at early stages …and early detection has been proven to reduce mortality

  • We communicate the importance of screening for certain cancers.
  • We cover screening for breast, colorectal and cervical cancers.
  • We cover vaccines (e.g. Gardasil) for the prevention of cancer.
  • Our health benefit plans cover cancer screening at a cost-sharing level that does not present a barrier to being screened appropriately.
Access to Quality Treatment and Clinical Trials
 
…reducing barriers to cancer care is critical in the fight to eliminate suffering and death due to cancer

  • We have educated our employees about cancer clinical trials.
  • If an employee or covered dependent chooses to participate in a trial, our health benefit plans cover participation at a cost-sharing level that does not present a financial challenge.
  • Our health benefit plans include coverage for cancer treatment at Commission on Cancer-approved facilities and cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
