Learning and Personal Development Week
Since 2012, City of Hope has engaged its employees in a week long learning event, Learning and Personal Development Week (LPDW). Demonstrative of City of Hope's commitment to the health of its employees, Wellness was one of five learning tracks offered during this event. Other learning tracks included City of Hope Fundamentals, with a focus on organizational culture, Leadership, Innovative and Cool Science, and Useful Tools and Techniques.
For LPDW 2017, the organization partnered with facilitators to offer 34 courses featured within the Wellness track, many of which were accessible via weblnar. Health Promotion topics within this track included ergonomics, first aid at home, home safety, meditation, busting nutrition myths, promoting healthy sleep habits, and yoga. Additional health promotion topics within the Innovative Science track included courses on library tools, dissemination and access to evidence-based research, a historical overview of cancer, and the important contributions of cancer centers to the field. This year the program engaged over 1500 unique participants, each of whom participated in at feast 3 courses during the week. Of the total 4750 filled seats, wellness accounted for 23% of total participation.
The program Is unique in structure in that it offers employees the opportunity to self-enroll in courses that are relevant to each individual, and also is rolled out through the utilization of department ambassadors who market and promote it, to optimize engagement.
