Clinical Services Support Director, Independence Blue Cross
Karen Mayer serves as the Clinical Service Support director at Independence Blue Cross, the leading health insurance organization in southeastern Pennsylvania. With its affiliates, the company serves nearly 9 million people in 32 states and Washington, D.C.
In her current role, she supports the firm’s Chief Medical Officer on special projects and key strategic initiatives. Prior to this position, she was the director of Associate Wellness and Communications at Independence. She developed and executed the annual wellness operating plan for the company’s 4,400+ associates across fourteen locations. She also oversaw all internal and external wellness communications.
Upon joining Independence Blue Cross, Karen served as the senior director in the Office of the President. In this role, she managed the unit’s core operations and communications, served as the administrator for the firm’s Executive Operating Committee meetings, and oversaw special projects as designated by the President.
Before her tenure in the health insurance industry, Karen held a variety of roles in the financial services and investment management industry. She has extensive experience in strategic marketing and communications, and start-up departmental ventures.
Karen possesses her Master’s degree in Finance from New York University, a Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration and an Associate’s Degree from the Parson’s School of Design. She is currently enrolled in Rowan University’s Masters in Wellness and Lifestyle Management Program.
