CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ certification has been awarded to Hogan & Hartson, recognizing the law firm’s commitment to the health of their employees and family members by certifying their efforts to meet an exceptionally high standard of cancer prevention, screening and care guidelines.
William C. Weldon, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson & Johnson chairs the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, the nonprofit organization of cancer-fighting CEOs who created the CEO Cancer Gold Standard™, in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, many of its designated cancer centers, the American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and leading corporate health professionals.
“Our Gold Standard certification acknowledges the continued leadership and dedication of Hogan & Hartson to health and public service, particularly with respect to fighting cancer,” said Weldon.
The CEO Cancer Gold Standard™, calls for companies to evaluate their benefits and culture and take extensive, concrete actions in five key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, a company must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by discouraging tobacco use and encouraging physical activity, healthy diet and nutrition; detect cancer at its earliest stages; and provide access to quality care, including the availability of clinical trials.
Hogan & Hartson’s commitment to the CEO Cancer Gold Standard began at the urging of the late Paul Grant Rogers, a distinguished partner at Hogan & Hartson who passed away on October 13, 2008. The Honorable Paul Rogers joined Hogan & Hartson in 1979, after serving 24 years as a Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives where he became widely known on Capitol Hill as "Mr. Health," for sponsoring landmark legislation including the National Cancer Act of 1971 and 1977. Under the leadership of Ann Morgan Vickery, managing partner of Hogan & Hartson's Washington, D.C., office and director of the firm’s health practice, Hogan & Hartson completed the Gold Standard accreditation process which further exemplifies the firm’s commitment to health issues, beginning with its own employees and their family members.
Hogan & Hartson becomes the thirty-fifth organization to achieve Gold Standard accreditation and joins with Jenner & Block as one of two accredited law firms.
